Rams opt against signing Arsenal youngster

Derby County boss Nigel Clough has confirmed he will not be signing Arsenal youngster Mark Randall on a long-term loan. Randall has been training with the Rams and featured in three friendlies on the club's pre-season trip to the South West last week. The midfielder was hoping to secure a move to Pride Park as he looks to gain further first-team experience, having made 11 appearances for Arsenal to date. However, the 19-year-old will now have to wait for his opportunity after Clough decided against following up his initial interest. "We have decided not to pursue anything with Mark," Clough told the Derby Evening Telegraph. "We have spoken to Liam Brady at Arsenal and to Mark, and although he did quite well for us while we were away, we think we need a different sort of midfielder. "We need somebody who is going to come in and really challenge the three central midfielders we have in there. "We have three very good players - Robbie Savage, Stephen Pearson and Paul Green - and arguably they have impressed as much as anybody in the last three or four weeks."
