McLeod attracts attention

Pete Winkelman has revealed that there is plenty of interest in Izale McLeod.

MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman has revealed that there is plenty of interest surrounding transfer-listed striker Izale McLeod.

McLeod, who played for the England Under 21s, handed in a transfer request at the end of last season as the Dons failed to haul themselves out of League Two following defeat to Shrewsbury in the play-off semi-final.

The 22-year-old was named the League Two player of the year and after posting a fine display throughout the last campaign with 24 goals, there is no wonder he is attracting the attention of clubs in the Premier League.

"There continues to be enormous interest in Izale McLeod," Winkelman said.

"I've had lots of people come and phone me but I've yet to receive an offer which we'd look to move forward on.

"At the same time I get called every day from somebody - including numerous Premier League clubs - asking what is happening with Izale.

"He's one of those players that seems to have been talked about by everybody for the last two years - not unlike Freddy Eastwood who of course did eventually go to Wolves.

"On his day he's one of the very very best in the country at any level - that's how good I think Izale McLeod is.

"He's a tremendous servant to the club and its leading all-time goalscorer with 60-odd goals in three seasons."
