WIMBLEDON defender Alan Kimble is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after it emerged that he requires surgery on a knee injury, while Gareth Ainsworth has also been on the operating table again.

Kimble damaged cartilage during a training session last month and now Dons boss Terry Burton has revealed that the 35-year-old will have to go under the knife before he is able to resume his playing career.

"Alan needs an operation which has put him back. He has been carrying a cartilage problem for a few weeks," he said.

"We thought it was less serious but it has become inflamed and we don't expect him back for a while now.

"It's a blow because he's a good player, but he's just one of several important people I can't pick at the moment and we'll have to cope."

Meanwhile, Ainsworth has undergone a second operation on his ankle injury.

Burton added: "This is very tough for the lad. He has been with us for four years and has spent two of them out of action with injuries."
