Swindon manager Mark Cooper could not hide his delight after watching the Robins romp to a "wonderful" 5-0 win over Crewe in League One. Crewe held out for 34 minutes but once they went behind to a goal by Nile Ranger it was a question of how many Swindon might score and Massimo Luongo added a second before the break. Ryan Mason hit a hat-trick in the second half for Town and had a penalty saved by Alan Martin in stoppage time, while defender Nathan Thompson hit the bar and Crewe could not get off the pitch quick enough at the final whistle. Cooper said: "The way we moved the ball across the pitch was fantastic at times. Everything we had worked on in training came to fruition and from a coaching perspective this was wonderful. "I thought we were excellent from start to finish. For the first 10 or 15 minutes we felt each other out but after that we were tremendous. Hopefully this sort of result and performance will help us win a few people over. "I thought Yaser Kasim was outstanding. He controlled midfield for most of the game and has been great for us ever since he arrived. Last season he could not even get a game in the Conference but here he has come in and been one of our best players so far. "We gave the players a light couple of days training and they have responded with a superb display. After beating QPR in midweek I feared it might be a case of after the Lord Mayor's Show, but it was not." Ranger's goal came from a defence-cracking pass by Kasim but there was an element of fortune about the second in the 43rd minute as an intended cross from Luongo drifted over the head of Martin. At 2-0 there was no way back for Crewe and it was then that Mason took over, showing why Tottenham, from where he is on loan, rate him so highly. Mason's first came in the 46th minute, turning in another perfectly delivered pass from the industrious Kasim, but worse was to follow for Alex. Ranger was brought down by Martin as he raced into the danger area to concede a penalty, the under-protected goalkeeper was booked and Mason compounded his felony by sending him the wrong way from the spot-kick. Crewe did not manage a worthwhile shot until the 66th minute when Brad Inman pressed Wes Foderingham into meaningful action for the first time but it was only a temporary respite for Davis' beleaguered troops. In the 70th minute Mason got his third with a deft touch from a centre by Alex Pritchard and the young midfield player should have got a fourth at the death only to see his penalty saved by Martin after Ranger had again been fouled.
