Di Canio: Work ahead after loss

Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio has admitted their 1-0 defeat to Cheltenham will provide him with some frailties to iron out.

It was the visitors who dominated the first-half chances, with Billy Bodin, Oliver Risser, Raffaele De Vita and Alan McCormack all going close, the latter hitting the outside of the upright. And Town paid the price as Steve Elliott headed the only goal of the game three minutes after the break. "We had one or two chances and maybe we should have drawn, at least," said Di Canio, who tasted defeat for the first time as a manager. "But even if you don't score you still need to play at the same level and I was not happy with my players for 20 minutes of the second half. "I want to win every game but, if we are going to lose, it is better that it is at the start of the season. I now have to help them believe in themselves when they are 1-0 down - you cannot lose confidence." Di Canio was also unhappy with the defending that led to Cheltenham's winner. He added: "It was from a corner at the start of the second half. We need to be stronger when we are one-on-one in the box. If they are stronger then we need to play a different way, play so that they cannot see the ball."
