Smith: I wanted Man United

Walsall boss Dean Smith admits he was hoping to get Manchester United as the Capital One Cup second-round draw neared completion.

There were just two Premier League seeds left in the hat when the time came to find out who the Saddlers would face, with the Red Devils still in there alongside Palace. "I'm really pleased," said Smith. "It was a 50-50 call between Palace and Man United, so financially for the football club Manchester United would have been a bigger draw, but Crystal Palace is a really good draw for us. "It's a Premier League team at home; one who finished the season so strongly last year, with an established manager in the top flight and a British boss for us all to look up to in Tony Pulis, who has done consistently well. It will be tough, that's for sure, but one we'll certainly look forward to."
