Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon has expressed his disappointment following Tom Bradshaw's switch to League One Walsall.
The Shrews, who were relegated from League One last season, offered the 21-year-old striker an improved contract but he instead put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the Banks's Stadium.
"The lad made it obvious to us very early on that he saw his future elsewhere," Mellon told the club's official website.
"I never had chance to speak to him face to face, but certainly he never indicated that he wanted to stay.
"It was one that wasn't really in my hands as he had made his mind up and felt that Walsall was a better challenge for him and that's where he saw his future.
"We only want people who are really on side with the project and who want to help the club bounce back.
"He indicated that he didn't want to be part of that, wanted to leave and wanted to go and pursue a different challenge elsewhere."
