Dean Smith described Walsall's performance as 'average' after they clung to hopes of the play-offs with a narrow win over Shrewsbury.
It was not a dirty encounter but a player from each side received a second-half red card at the Banks's Stadium. Shrewsbury midfielder Joe Mills was first to go in the 62nd minute for a lunging tackle on James Chambers, and 10 minutes later the Saddlers' match-winner Craig Westcarr leapt to his feet during treatment after his shin was gashed and appeared to head-butt Sam Foley. Smith said Westcarr would be disciplined by the club, but added: "I thought the tackle on 'Westy (by Joe Jacobson) should have been a red card anyway, and for some reason the referee allowed five of their players to surround West while he was on the ground getting treatment. "We have lost other players in recent weeks - four red cards in the last eight or nine games and not a foul amongst them. It's disappointing because our disciplinary record has been fantastic. "I thought it was an average performance, but we were comfortable."
