Walsall boss Dean Smith has been pleasantly surprised by the calibre of those interested in being his assistant.
Richard O'Kelly left the midlands club last week to link up with Sean O'Driscoll at Championship side Bristol City, and Smith has wasted little time in his search for a new number two. He has already met up with a couple of candidates having had his head turned by the quality of some of those interested in the post. "There are a few who have jumped out who I wasn't aware would be interested in the position. I have been surprised by one or two names but we'll make a decision this week," he told the Express & Star. "I've met with a couple and we'll see where we'll go. I've got no favourites, I've got people to speak to. We'll pick wisely and look to do it early this week, before Oldham (at home on Saturday)."
