Smith praises battling Walsall

Walsall boss Dean Smith hailed his side's fighting qualities after seeing George Bowerman leave it late to rescue an FA Cup replay.

Jamie Taylor's first-half chip looked set to send Lincoln through to the second round of the FA Cup before Bowerman scored his seventh of the season with just five minutes to go. Smith said: "Perseverance is the key and we're still in the cup, that's the main thing. "I've got a cabinet in my head where I sometimes put games in and never open it again and that will be one of them. I thought we started quite well and I might be talking cricket but it was a good toss to win for them with the sun. "We had a period of about 10 minutes where we passed the ball around without any real penetration. When they got the goal it gave them fresh impetus and I thought we were poor. "It just seems to be the FA Cup for us for some reason. They'll be teams in the league who have been knocked out of the cup by non-league opposition and what we've done is given ourselves a second chance."
