Walsall boss Dean Smith praised George Bowerman for netting the winner in their 3-2 FA Cup replay with Exeter.
The 20-year-old, who scored his first senior goal against Bury on Saturday, raced on to a throughball, rounded goalkeeper Artur Krysiak and drilled the ball home from a tight angle seven minutes into extra time
Smith said: "It was a great finish. George scores goals, we have always known that. I'm not sure if he is ready to start games yet, but he does well when he comes on. He loves putting the ball in the net."
Smith, whose side had only won once in their previous 15 games, added: "We got through in the end and I thought we deserved it.
"We were the better team and showed character in coming back after we went behind. The reaction from the players after Saturday's home defeat by Bury was just what I wanted."
Smith confirmed he is still hoping to sign a couple of players on loan before Thursday's 5pm deadline, with one in the pipeline being Middlesbrough winger Andy Halliday.
