Hurst: Saddlers must toughen up

Kevan Hurst wants Walsall to develop a mean streak in order to haul themselves away from trouble in League One.

Walsall have won just once in 10 league outings, culminating in the 2-1 home defeat to lowly Exeter on Tuesday which prompted manager Dean Smith to suggest the Saddlers are in a relegation battle. But midfielder Hurst is convinced a little bit of steely resolve is all that is needed to steer themselves clear of the danger zone. He told the club's official website: "Some of our play was excellent on Tuesday, we just need a bit more grit about us. "We know we've got it because we have proved it on occasions so far this season, the key is to be able to produce it on a more regular basis. "We have just got to stay positive. If we let our heads drop, that's the worst thing that can happen."
