Smith unhappy with red card

Walsall boss Dean Smith may appeal against the red card shown to Andy Butler in the 1-1 draw at Hartlepool on Saturday.

Referee Paul Tierney sent off Butler and Pools' Nathan Luscombe after both went in for a loose ball three minutes before half-time in the League One clash at Victoria Park. Smith said: "I had the benefit of a look at the video half-time and I don't think it's a red. Butler goes in with one leg, wins the ball, their lad comes in for the ball. Both are cautions if that and both players were very unlucky "It's frustrating as your captain is off the pitch and missing three games, unless we appeal. "There was a bit of a melee afterwards, people pushing and shoving and I didn't even realise our man was sent off." Jon Macken put Walsall ahead from the penalty spot but Colin Nish levelled for Pools.
