Manager Dean Smith is confident his Walsall side can push for promotion this year, just three months after surviving relegation.
The Saddlers have made eight new signing this summer and Smith believes that will spur them onto big things in the new campaign.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Smith said: "I would be doing the supporters and the staff at the club a disservice if our goal was not to finish in first place.
"We've had a good pre-season, we've brought in quite a few new players and we have to set our sights high.
"I'm pleased with the players we've managed to bring in, but we must always look to improve."
Walsall kick off thier league season with a home match against Leyton Orient.
