Saddlers pair pen deals

Walsall have signed two young players to new contract extensions.

Walsall have signed two youngsters to new contract extensions at The Bescot Stadium.

Midfielder Daryl Taylor and defender Julian Bennett both have signed contracts that will see them through to the summer of 2006 with The Saddlers.

Taylor's one-year extension with Paul Merson's side comes after the youngster's superb start to the League One season with the Black Country outfit, with the teenager having scored three goals for the club to this point.

Bennett, 19, initially signed professional forms with Walsall in the summer and has impressed at left back and in the centre of the back-line so far this term.

Merson expressed his delight at penning the young pair to new deals.

"The form of Daryl throughout the pre-season and in these early matches has been a real bonus to us," Merson told the club's official website.

"Julian has done well for me so far. He has a lot of potential and is learning the game all the time."
