Moore pleased with return

Ronnie Moore admitted he enjoyed his return to Tranmere, even if he felt his Hartlepool side should have left with more than a 1-1 draw.

Moore's second stint as Tranmere manager ended last April when he was dismissed, after initially being suspended, following an FA breach of betting regulations, and it looked like being an unhappy return on Saturday afternoon as Kayode Odejayi put his former side ahead on 12 minutes. But the lead lasted just two minutes as Scott Fenwick hit back almost immediately and bottom club Hartlepool came closest to a winner in the second half, leaving boss Moore proud of his troops. "It was a good show; we should have won," he said. "It's great to come back here, we were outstanding first half, but gave away another soft goal. After that we bossed it. We worked hard in training on our shape and it came off. "They have set the standards now, no falling back to what they have been. This is take off now. "We changed a little bit and a different set-up and it worked and everyone did well. (Matthew) Batesy did well defensively, Michael Woods was good and everyone played really well. "I'm only disappointed we didn't win today and come away with the gap down to six points. We got right back in the game after conceding which really pleased me. "And we had a lot of chances to get more. I've said if they give me that week-in, week-out they won't be in this position for long. "Our fans will go home happy but disappointed we didn't win the game. Pride, effort, determination and commitment were all there. There's a bit to work on but we are working in the right direction." And Tranmere manager Micky Adams agreed with Moore's assessment that Hartlepool were unlucky not to claim all three points. "It's a point gained for us rather than Hartlepool; in their situation they need to win games," said Adams. "They gave it a real go and I have to say they are unfortunate not to win it. "We set real high standards last week against Accrington, but fell short of those here for whatever reason. We are happy with a point; we take it and move on. "Carlisle losing is a bonus for us and any point we gain is fantastic, and it's another unbeaten game. "We have something like 15 points from eight games, so we are making good progress. We are becoming hard to beat and it was too easy at the start of the season, we were getting turned over too easily, but we have showed our battling qualities here, if not the football we have showed of late. "We take the point and move on. This was a strange position for us, we were favourites for the game and that's not been the case this season."
