Sheridan praises goalscorers

Image: John Sheridan: Pleased with the three points

John Sheridan was full of praise for Plymouth's Marvin Morgan and Nathan Thomas following the 2-0 home win over Hartlepool.

Morgan scored his first goal of the season on the turn from the edge of the box in the 14th minute after being teed up by five-goal top scorer Reuben Reid. Reid suffered an injury and was replaced by Nathan Thomas for the second half, who raced onto a defence splitting Dominic Blizzard pass to slot away his first goal of the term. Sheridan said: "I always say it doesn't matter who gets the goals and I am pleased for Nathan and Marvin they got on the score sheet and because they both took the goals really well." "You want a performance but three points was the most important thing when you are coming in off the back of two defeats. "We started okay and got a good goal. The game was there to go on and get a second goal and make the game a bit easier. "We just did one or two silly things that enabled Hartlepool to get a few opportunities - especially the one just before half-time which produced a good save from Luke. "I was happy with the second half - obviously not with the injuries that we picked up. It does not really concern me who scores the goals. I think it was just important that we got back to winning ways, stay in the pack and get three points. "Nathan is a good finisher. He has got that confidence in him, and he kicks the ball with pace. When he crosses a ball, I think he crosses it with pace all the time, so I am just trying to tell him one or two things, like just trying to guide it in there, because he gets in good areas. "It is always good to keep a clean sheet. Luke's made a good save just before half time. I do not think he got bothered too much." Hartlepool boss Colin Cooper said: "We had enough possession to do more than we did with it that's for sure. If there were no goals in the game I would have been pleased with the way we have played but the 2-0 scoreline changes all that. "It makes no difference if you have had plenty of the ball or not, it's what you do with it and scoring goals makes all the difference. "Sometimes in football you have to be brave and we had plenty of room across midfield especially, where we could have played a bit more and we didn't. "If we had gone in 1-1 at half time I would have been very confident in the second half but we didn't. It wasn't for the want of trying from Jonathan Franks but when you are one versus one with the goalkeeper that ball has got to go into the net. "As it was we had to press and press in the second half and try and create things, which we did, but the final bit just wasn't good enough and obviously we then get caught on the counter. "If you analyse the first goal, Marvin (Morgan) had too much time to turn and if you analyse the second goal Dominic Blizzard had time to turn and put through the final pass. As a former defender that is something that obviously doesn't please me."
