Hartlepool have confirmed striker Luke James has asked to leave the club.

The 19-year-old, who scored 14 goals for Pools last season and has played every minute of the club's three games this campaign, handed in an official transfer request at Victoria Park on Monday. A club statement said: "Pools striker Luke James has today handed in a written transfer request. The club has acknowledged the request but advised Luke that he remains under contract to Hartlepool United. There will be no further comment at this time." James, who made his debut in 2011, came through the academy at Hartlepool and signed a new contract last summer, but the length of the deal was not disclosed.
