Hartlepool have signed goalkeeper Joel Dixon on an emergency loan deal from Sunderland.

Dixon is Colin Cooper's fourth signing of the day after they signed Tommy Miller, Ryan Brobbel and Michael Woods. Stopper Andy Rafferty picked up an injury in training earlier in the week and the 20-year-old has been drafted in as cover for Pools' League Two season opener with Stevenage. Dixon joined the Black Cats academy aged 14 and has been on loan at Workington Reds and Boston United. He made 19 appearances for Sunderland's Under-21s last season and he will provide competition for first-choice keeper Scott Flinders.
