Hartlepool will be without young defender Dan Jones for around two months after it was revealed he requires a knee operation.

The 18-year-old, who has yet to make his first-team debut, will undergo surgery on a meniscus cartilage tear on Tuesday and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Pools physio Ian Gallagher told the club's official website: "His symptoms haven't settled down the way we would have hoped for.

"We won't know now until after the operation when the surgeon gives us the report how long he'll be out, but we're hoping it will be no longer than around six to eight weeks."
