Hartlepool striker Steve Howard said his team-mates could not hide their disappointment after the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.

Hartlepool looked destined to claim all three points thanks to Simon Walton's 73rd-minute penalty until Cherries substitute Matt Tubbs, on for Josh McQuoid, struck for his first goal of the season in time added on.

Howard said: "The dressing room is absolutely gutted. We thought we had done it. We had defended so well in the heat. In the end we were undone by a route-one goal, one unusual for Bournemouth who like to pass it about.

"They do not normally play like that. But it was a desperate situation and there was only a minute of stoppage time left. We did not deal with it. Our central defence got in a tangle and the ball cannoned off one of our lads straight to Tubbs.

"We have to take the positives out of it. We would have taken a 1-1 draw before the match, so we have to be satisfied."
