Striker enjoying the challenge of fighting for a place at Shrewsbury

Marvin Morgan insists that the fierce competition for places has helped Shrewsbury Town start the season in fine form. The Shrews kept up the pace on League Two leaders Southend with a last-gasp 3-2 win over Barnet last weekend and are still just two points behind the Shrimpers. Morgan is enjoying his football again after his summer switch from Aldershot and has scored seven goals in all competitions, but he says the other strikers at the club have helped him to raise his game. "We've got a great attacking force this year, with the likes of Johnny Taylor, Terry Gornell and Tom Bradshaw on the sidelines, so it is pretty frightening what we have in reserve," Morgan told skysports.com.

Great players

"They are all great players and it will be interesting to see how players go up and down in terms of form because if they do drop their standards there are others chomping at the bit to replace them. "Overall though the squad is very strong and is probably the best squad I've ever played in. "James Collins is quality and I rate all of our strikers very highly, so I'm in great company when you look at it. "James is an Under-21 international and is in top form at the moment, with two goals in three games. "Terry Gornell is a really good player too and I feel a bit sorry for him because he has done quite well when given the chance this season and at any other club he would be playing regularly, but that is what happens when you've got a squad as strong as ours. "I talk about Bradders all the time because he is so sharp and he is going to be such a big player for this club when he is older. "I'm sure that the gaffer won't let him go out on loan anywhere because he is such a good player, but due to how well the lads in front of him are playing he isn't getting much game time. "It keeps everyone on their toes because I've got seven goals so far this season and it doesn't mean that I'm going to start every single game. "It makes me continue to work hard and get my goals because otherwise I could be out of the team."
