Pools boss pleased despite exit

Hartlepool manager Mick Wadsworth remained upbeat despite the penalty shoot-out defeat to Sheffield United in the Carling Cup.

The first round tie finished 1-1 after extra time with Pools playing the added period with 10 men after their goalscorer Antony Sweeney limped off. The Blades advanced after captain Sam Collins and Colin Nish missed for Pools. Wadsworth told the club's official website: "There's no disgrace in losing but it's disappointing to lose. "I thought the game hinged on the moment Antony Sweeney got injured, which was a shame because I thought we were in the ascendancy just then. "I thought we played well throughout, even in the first half when I didn't really think we deserved to be behind in the game."
