Pools keeper wants out

Hartlepool reserve goalkeeper Jim Provett has asked for a transfer.

Hartlepool reserve goalkeeper Jim Provett has asked for a transfer.

The 22-year-old has lost his place in the starting line-up at Victoria Park to impressive Greek Dimi Konstantopoulos.

Provett has now decided he needs a change of scene after failing to make the number one jersey his own once again.

"Jim has never wanted to leave Hartlepool and he showed that last year by signing a new deal," his agent Garry Thornburn told skysports.com.

The Teesside outfit revealed in a club statement they have rejected the request.

"Hartlepool United Football Club confirms that we have received a letter from Jim Provett requesting that he be released from his current contract for no fee," read the statement.

"The club has reviewed this and advised him that we will not agree to the request and that we expect him to honour the remaining period of the contract he signed in January 2004.
