Bristol Rovers reward Leadbitter

Bristol Rovers continued a busy day of transfer activity by tying down Daniel Leadbitter to a new deal.

The defender joined Rovers at the start of last season and featured 24 times as the club secured promotion to the Football League with a play-off final win over Grimsby. The Newcastle youth product did enough to earn a new deal, on the day it was confirmed Andy Monkhouse and Abdulai Bell-Baggie would be leaving the Memorial Stadium as free agents. Manager Darrell Clarke was full of praise for the 24-year-old full-back, telling the club's official website: "Daniel is a terrific player who at times this season had to wait for his chance but I feel he grabbed his chance with both hands. "I think he developed a lot as the season went on and went from strength to strength and we are hoping that will continue into the Football League."
