Westley delighted with play-offs

Stevenage boss Graham Westley hailed his side's resilience after they were forced to dig deep to book themselves a play-off spot.

Dean Parrett's fourth league goal of the season was enough to see off struggling Carlisle and hand Westley a precious three points in his pursuit of promotion. Westley said: "We knew the play-offs could be there for us before today, we've been playing okay and been building towards them for a while so it isn't really a landmark for us. "We showed a lot more composure in possession of the ball and it was good to see a goal crafted from what we'd talked about during the week. "It was a pleasing performance today, even though I was disappointed to our reaction after going ahead but we've spoken a lot in there about how we can improve going forward. "It was a good team goal, Deano arrived in the right area and took the chance early and we've ended up winning the game and three points from it. It puts us in sixth for certain and that's a commendable enough finish." Boro dominated throughout and almost took an early lead through Andy Bond, who saw his volley cleared off the line. After a profligate first half Parrett eventually broke the deadlock a minute into the second as he finished clinically from the edge of the box, following Tom Pett's pass. Jason Kennedy went close for Carlisle late on, but Stevenage held on for a well deserved win, to leave Carlisle boss Keith Curle fuming. He said: "I won't dress that up, I'm not happy with the performance. There were so many things within the game we didn't do and there are a number of things we need to change moving forward. "It reiterates in my own mind what is needed to create a winning mentality and winning environment, this performance typifies what's needed at the football club and a lot of honest hard work needs to be done. "There seems to be a culture at the club where praise is given when players do the wrong thing and that won't help to get the right results. "Stevenage didn't re-invent the wheel, they just did the right things more consistently than us, and they passed and moved and tried to manoeuvre the ball. "We were very static in our play today and looked a bit lacklustre all over the pitch. We just didn't perform and the fans deserve better after paying good money to come down here."
