Westley focused on Stevenage

Graham Westley has called on Stevenage to win their last two games and grab a playoff place following a 2-2 draw with Accrington.

Sixth-placed Boro needed a last-gasp equaliser from Chris Beardsley to rescue a point at the Crown Ground despite Stanley being down to 10-men for almost the whole match. It was a disastrous start for the hosts when, in the second minute, referee Scott Mathieson sent off defender Nicky Hunt for what he saw as a shove on Charlie Lee. However, Westley knows that point could be crucial as they look to win against Carlisle and fellow play-off contenders Luton in their final two games to seal a top-seven place. "We just have to focus on ourselves as, if we keep winning points and winning games, we will get ourselves into the play-off situation," said Westley. "We didn't do enough to win against Accrington but then we did enough to get one point. Playing against 10 men is a myth as it only takes one man to put the ball into the net. "When teams go down to 10 they can react with steely determination and a gritty performance. Accrington worked hard, had pace and quality in counter attacks and made it difficult for us. "However, we showed determination until the end and it was better to get a point than nothing at all." Accrington manager John Coleman was disappointed that his mid-table side could not hold on for a victory. The 10-men opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Josh Windass raced down the left wing, beat Dean Wells and crossed the ball for Sean Maguire to fire home from 10 yards out. It was all square four minutes later when Liverpool loanee Lloyd Jones was judged to have handled the ball in the area and Simon Walton sent goalkeeper Scott Davies the wrong way from the penalty spot. From a throw-in, West Ham loannee Maguire got the ball and was again clinical - firing a low shot into the net after 39 minutes. And, although they were a man down, Accrington continued to create the better chances with Windass having another effort kept out by the legs of goalkeeper Chris Day. However, in the 89th minute, Bruno Andrade's cross was knocked down by Bira Dembele and Beardsley hooked the ball home from close range. "The point was crucial to them," said Coleman. "If they had lost it would have taken them to the wire and could have stopped them getting into the play-offs but they will be disappointed they didn't win it against 10 men. "We were fantastic. I didn't see the sending off but Nicky is not a violent person and their lad jumped across Nicky as he was trying to take a throw-in which is against the rules anyway. "The game should have been stopped and their lad should have got a yellow card. What happens after that is the ref's decision. "But Sean [Maguire] has scored two absolutely magnificent goals and his work-rate was fantastic. It didn't look like it was a dead rubber for us as we desperate to win the game. "Their players have come off saying we were the better side by miles and players don't lie so I am disappointed we couldn't see it out."
