Questions for Flitcroft

Bury boss David Flitcroft admitted he will analyse his decision making as Morecambe came from behind for a 2-1 away win.

Tom Eaves gave promotion-chasing Bury a 17th-minute lead but the hosts should have killed the game off as they bossed the first hour. Instead Padraig Amond came off the bench to claim a 79th-minute equaliser before fellow Morecambe substitute Paul Mullin stunned the Shakers by tapping in an 85th-minute winner. Nick Pope was at fault for Mullin's goal but rather than pointing the finger at the on-loan Charlton keeper, Flitcroft put his hand up. He said: "Popey has been faultless so far. He's been inspirational, the number of times he's saved us. "I was very happy with the first-half performance but we needed that second goal. Had we got that it would have been game over. We didn't put them to the sword when we should have done. "You felt that, without getting that second goal, what happened here might have happened. "We tightened up, we looked apprehensive and just didn't have that flow which we had in the first half. "I can't wait to look at it again. I've got to see what I could have done better, see if I could have redirected the substitutions. I'll analyse my own performance and the team's because I've got to learn from it. "We've got six games to go and hopefully we don't repeat that six minutes of madness." Bury took a deserved lead as Andrew Tutte crossed for Dan Nardiello. Danny Ward got a hand to Nardiello's shot and although the ball seemed to cross the line before Eaves made sure, Eaves was credited with the goal. Ward then denied Danny Mayor and Nardiello while Kevin Ellison headed wide for the visitors after the break. Tutte, Mayor and Craig Jones all tested Ward before Jones and Chris Hussey went close. But Amond made Bury pay, beating Pope after being played in by Jack Redshaw. A poor clearance by the Bury keeper then went straight to Jamie Devitt, who turned it towards the open goal for Mullin to clinch the Shrimps' first win in six. Manager Jim Bentley said: "Bury were one of the form sides in the league so we knew it'd be difficult. "We've struggled for a win of late but I told the lads that anybody's capable of beating anybody. "You always have a game-plan and a plan B, and when we changed the shape it worked a treat. "They started better. They're a slick side with power and pace. We had a few opportunities in the first half to hit them on the break but didn't execute the ball into the final third well enough. "We got the substitution right at half-time, Jamie Devitt came on and proved his worth. And we couldn't have got the other two subs better with them scoring the two goals. "It gave us a freshness up top but I thought Dan Ward was exceptional in goal too. We rode our luck at times but while it's 1-0, you've always got a chance and we finished strongly."
