Tisdale hails Exeter's belief

Paul Tisdale hailed Exeter's belief after David Wheeler's winner capped an incredible comeback from 2-0 down to defeat Luton 3-2.

The Hatters had looked like they were on the way to a much-needed three points after six straight defeats, only for the Grecians to net three times in the second period, with Wheeler popping up at the death. Grecians boss Tisdale said: "At half time there was a minute or two talk about details and then there was a synopsis of the situation. "Two goals is a very difficult scoreline to defend at half time, as do you sit and stand back and defend or do you keep playing the way you were? We had to go for it, not that we were playing reserved in the first half as we were unlucky to come off 2-0 down at half time. "But I said to the players, one goal against a team that's 2-0 up can turn the game and maybe the second goal didn't do them a favour. We believed we can win and I did say to them, you score one and you can score three, but you have to believe it first. "Our first 10 minutes after half time was about us believing we could do it and just being free with the ball, not worried about the stakes. "When you've got that mentality, you've got that chance. It's not the sort of game you want to lose, it's the sort of game when you win you remember for a long time and it and puts us even closer to the play-offs." Luke Guttridge had put Luton in front in the 21st minute when he took Mark Cullen's pass and beat James Hamon. Luton then had a second as they broke away again on the stroke of half time, with Cullen taking Jonathan Smith's pass to fire low into the net. However five minutes after the break Exeter were back in the game as Ryan Harley produced a lovely volley into the roof of the net. The Grecians then had a deserved leveller with 14 minutes left when centre-back Jordan Moore-Taylor slotted into the bottom corner when a free-kick fell invitingly into his path. Tisdale's side then won it in the dying seconds when Christian Ribeiro's header hit the post and Wheeler slid the ball in from close range. Town boss John Still said: "It was a massive disappointment, having worked so hard to get in front, the players have worked their absolute socks off and I can't ask for any more from them. "They ran out of a bit of steam, but a tremendous effort, although that on the day wasn't good enough. "I think Exeter are a good footballing side, and I thought they were always in the game in the first half, came back strong and played very well second half."
