Moore advice for Hugill

Hartlepool boss Ronnie Moore was quick to give advice to debutant striker Jordan Hugill after his impressive display against Cambridge.

The 22-year-old, a loan deadline day signing from Preston, played 87 minutes as Pools climbed out of the League Two relegation zone for the first time since April with a 2-1 win over the U's. That debut could have been marked with a goal had the striker tried to claim Brad Walker's first-half effort. Walker's header appeared to be over the line before Hugill got the final touch and Moore - a prolific frontman in his playing days - was happy to school the Middlesbrough-born man in the art of being a striker. "I thought Jordan up top was terrific for us," he said. "If I'd have been him I'd have claimed the goal. "He said the ball was already in, but you don't say that as a striker, you've got to run away with your arm up haven't you and let the referee decide whose goal it was. "He was terrific; I thought and him and Franksy (Jonathan Franks) had a good relationship going." There was no doubt over who got Pools' second-half winner as defender Scott Harrison's fierce drive earned a fourth victory on the bounce. It was the 21-year-old's first career goal and, if he gets his way, it could prompt a change in position. "Scotty Harrison was immense again; he won everything that came his way and he scored the goal," Moore added. "I think the worst thing was when he told me he could be a striker! "He reminds me a little bit of myself because I used to be play at the back and play up top, I think I had about 300 games at centre-half and 300 as a forward. "He'll never be as good as I was but he's learning." Harrison added: "It was my first ever goal and I can't remember too much about it! "It landed perfectly for me to hit it, I just went for it and the ball flew in. "I have played up front a couple of times for previous clubs. "In training they are always screaming at me to get back because I am always wandering off up front."
