Wilcox confident of survival

Russ Wilcox is sure that York will beat the drop despite late heartbreak at Accrington.

City had looked on course for a vital three points in their relegation battle after Jake Hyde had put them 2-1 ahead in the 76th minute. But Josh Windass scored a 90th-minute deflected free-kick to break York's hearts. "I am devastated," said Wilcox, whose side have conceded a number of late goals this season which has cost them 11 points. "It's cruel to miss out to a deflected late goal as I thought we had the win in the bag and were comfortable. "It was hard with a deflected goal off the wall but we should have better game-management and shouldn't give free-kicks away on the edge of the box. "It's two points dropped not a point gained and the lads are gutted as they have given everything for this football club. "We played some good football on a bobbly pitch and I think our performance deserved three points but we battle on and we will get out of the mess we are in." Stanley's assistant Jimmy Bell gave full credit to York for their battling performance. "I think we looked flat and jaded," he explained. "We have had a lot of games in the last few weeks against teams in the top six and I think it took its toll. "But we showed great resilience to battle back. We knew York would dig in as they are battling for their lives and they came here and changed their system and formation to counter us. "If York had won it could have dragged us into the relegation battle but it keeps them at arm's length. "They are a strong, awkward side and they put us under a lot of pressure but we fought back and I think a point is a fair result." The game burst into life in a six minute spell after the break when York broke quickly and Luke Summerfield's 20-yard strike took a deflection and found the bottom of the net. However Stanley hit back in the 69th minute when West Ham loan midfielder Sean Maguire pounced on a loose ball in the area and belted home from 12 yards. Hyde fired home John McCombe's pass in the 76th minute before Windass netted from long range via the York wall to upset City.
