Accrington manager John Coleman has expressed his delight at the return of Matt Crooks to the Crown Ground on an 18-month deal.

The 21-year-old, who was released by Huddersfield in January, made eight appearances for Stanley during a loan spell earlier in the season. Crooks will go straight into Coleman's squad for the League Two clash with Burton on Tuesday night. Coleman told Accrington's official club website: "I think he gives us strength, he can play in quite a lot of positions and I'm delighted with that signing for both this year and next year. "He went back to Huddersfield and then got released in the window and he's someone we were keen to look at, not just for this season but for next season." Despite playing in attack during his loan spell at the club, Crooks can expect to be deployed further back now he has joined on a permanent basic. The Stanley boss added: "We did try him up front once because we were craving someone who could hold the ball up, and I still think he can do a job there, but I see more of a defensive role for us and that's the reason I've signed him."
