Gray makes Southport switch

Accrington's joint-top scorer James Gray has made a loan switch to Vanarama Conference outfit Southport.

The 22-year-old will spend the rest of the season in non-league football, despite being a key figure under the previous regime of James Beattie. However, since a red card against Oxford in September, Gray has not scored a single goal having netted five in eight to start the campaign. "He has been frustrated," boss John Coleman told the club's official website. "What has hampered James's progress at Accrington is, when Jimmy (Bell) and I came in, he missed three games through suspension and we won all three. "His chances since then have been limited, especially with the style of football we play, as James wants to play off the striker. "He has a chance to play games which he is chomping at the bit to do and I hope he scores a lot of goals to ensure Southport's survival."
