Flitcroft hails 'defiant' win

Bury boss David Flitcroft described his side's performance as 'defiant' after Nathan Cameron's late winner at Accrington.

The Shakers cemented seventh place in League Two after taking maximum points at mid-table Stanley. They missed a number of chances in the first half, with Cameron heading over and Andrew Tutte blasting a good effort wide. Stanley came into it after the break, forcing a couple of good saves from Nick Pope but then, with nine minutes to go, Chris Hussey's cross was headed home by defender Cameron. "It was a defiant performance," said Flitcroft. "I am delighted we scored from a set piece as we have scored from nine set-pieces this season which shows the work done on the training ground. "We have also taken 14 points from our last seven games, which is two points a game, which is where we are at. "This is a fantastic result for us. We really took the game to them in the first half but missed some gilt-edged chances. "That gave them a hand up and John Coleman's teams never die. For the first 20 minutes of the second half they were the better team but we stood firm and were defiant. "We kept going, especially Cam after he had missed an early chance, and we showed fantastic character." Flitcroft also revealed he hopes to extend the loan spell of Adam El-Abd from Bristol City. "He has been part of the last seven games and I will be touching base with Steve Cotterill tomorrow (Wednesday)." Stanley manager John Coleman was gutted as his side slipped to a third successive loss. "I think we deserved to win the game and we have got to get out of this rut. We have lost three games on the spin and we could have won all three of them but we are getting punished for our mistakes," he said. "This performance merited at least a point but we've got to keep battling away. The little bit of luck is eluding us at the moment and we have got to be positive in front of goal - we are too tentative. "We look nervous and we are wasteful. We haven't become a bad team overnight and we've got to carry on and I'm sure it will come." Defender Tom Aldred, who had started 92 consecutive games for the Reds, was missing with speculation he could go elsewhere and Coleman said: "He declared himself injured, so draw your own conclusions from that."
