Northampton stop Storey talks

Miles Storey will not be joining Northampton after the League Two club accused Swindon of demanding too much money.

The striker, 21, was all set to move to Chris Wilder's Cobblers on loan when Northampton discovered Swindon were asking them to contribute more than the amount of his weekly wage. Wilder is unhappy that the Robins were effectively asking for a "loan fee" on top of Storey's wages and has therefore told Swindon the deal is off. Explaining the situation on his club's official website, Wilder said: "We will pay the wages of a player but we aren't being lulled into paying a loan fee for a 21-year-old. "That's not how we do things and we move on. Miles was one of a number of targets and there is no way we are being led into paying what was effectively a loan fee for a young player. "We will do a deal if it is right for us but we won't if not. If Swindon want to pick up the phone and agree a deal to cover his wages that's fine but we aren't sitting around waiting, we are moving on." Storey spent the first half of the season on loan with Portsmouth, where he scored three times in 22 appearances.
