Potter no longer with Oxford

Alfie Potter has had his contract with Oxford United terminated by mutual consent.

Potter joined the U's from Peterborough in July 2009 following an initial loan spell, and has played nearly 200 games for the club. He was part of the 2010 play-off-winning side that won promotion into the Football League. The 26-year-old scored 28 goals for Oxford, including one in that Conference play-off final win against York. Head coach Michael Appleton expects Potter to sign for another club later on Friday, saying: "He's a good lad and has ability but I believe everyone has a shelf-life at any football club and, after talking at length with him, we are in agreement that he needs a fresh challenge and he will hopefully tie up a deal at a new club later today. "We thank him for his efforts at Oxford United and wish him well for the future." Potter has made 20 appearances for the U's this season.
