Moore hopeful about future

Ronnie Moore urged Hartlepool to use their 2-0 victory over Cheltenham as a catalyst for a great escape in League Two.

The Football League's bottom side tasted victory for the first time since October 11 at Victoria Park on Saturday. Scott Fenwick and Rakish Bingham grabbed the goals to help Pools to a crucial victory that lifts them within seven points of safety. And a buoyant Moore is hopeful his men can kick on following their dominant showing. "It's a great feeling, we could have won by more. No-one can dispute the win," said Moore, after his first win since taking over as manager last month. "A clean sheet was a big thing we needed and we had some excellent performances. "The centre-halves, midfield and two up top were a threat. The big thing for me was the desire, which we haven't had. "We were running about, chasing, wanting to win. The crowd got behind us and they were fantastic. If we won by four no-one could complain. "Really we should have put icing on the cake and had more. But we created a lot of chances and we won a game. That feeling when you win is unbelievable. "You come off, results have gone for us; we are still a long way away but this gives us hope and belief. "With that response, we can close the gap no problem. It's a long way to go and now we have that feeling of what it is like to win.'" Moore's emotions were in stark contrast to a downbeat Paul Buckle, who was frustrated at seeing such a lacklustre Cheltenham display. The Town manager said: "It is always disappointing when you lose. We've probably had enough of those days this season to last us a lifetime. "It was especially disappointing given the great result at Oxford. But they [Hartlepool] played the conditions a lot better than us. "I said before the game the players have to manage the game in terms of understanding the conditions. The wind played a huge part in the game and I thought Hartlepool dealt with it a lot better. "I have spoken to the players about leadership and game management. We have to dust ourselves down, train well this week and go again at home [against Morcemambe]."
