Trio leave Hartlepool

Sidney Schmeltz, Matteo Lanzoni and Joe Ironside have all left Hartlepool after boss Ronnie Moore opted not to extend their deals.

Winger Schmeltz joined on a short-term deal when previous manager Paul Murray arrived and went on to make seven appearances. Lanzoni, who, like Schmeltz, worked with Murray at Oldham, arrived on-loan from Cambridge last month but failed to make an impact, while striker Ironside has gone back to parent club Sheffield United at the end of his one-month deal. On Twitter, Schmeltz wrote: "Thanks to @Official-HUFC for this wonderful experience at this club. I wish the club, players and the fans all the best." The departure of those three players could herald the arrival of new players for the Sky Bet League Two strugglers. "We need fresh blood in," boss Ronnie Moore told Pools Player. "We want a little bit of experience but it's very difficult. We've just got to keep chipping away. If we can't get them it's about getting young, hungry, athletic players. "It's a hell of a challenge. I've got a lot of contacts but as we open one door another one smacks us in the face. We've just got to keep plugging away and sooner or later we'll get four of five players in to strength the squad."
