Mansfield Town have named Adam Murray as their new manager on a permanent basis.

Murray took over as caretaker-boss of the Sky Bet League Two outfit after Paul Cox left the role last month and the 33-year-old becomes the youngest manager in the Football League.

His first game in full charge comes in Saturday's FA Cup second-round tie away to Cambridge United on Saturday.

Murray has led the side to a 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in the league and a hard-fought victory by the same scoreline in their FA Cup first-round replay away to Vanarama South side Concord Rangers since taking over from Cox.

"After much thought and consideration, I feel the time is right for me to take this step into management," Murray told the club's official website.

"I'm excited about this challenge and new adventure and I believe I have the knowledge, ability and contacts throughout the game to be successful.

"This is the proudest day of my career to date."

Midfielder Murray, who began his career as a Premier League player with Derby and has made over 500 appearances during 17 years as a player, is now in his third spell with Mansfield.
