Sheffield United's teenage forward Diego De Girolamo has returned to York on loan.

De Girolamo, 19, recalled from his first spell at Bootham Crescent earlier this month, will stay with York until January 4 and will go straight into Russ Wilcox's squad for Saturday's league game at Plymouth. "With Michael Higdon and Marc McNulty back we now have striking options and this return to York gives Diego the opportunity to continue his development," Blades boss Nigel Clough told his club's official website. "He did well in his first spell and we are happy for him to go and work with Russ Wilcox again." De Girolamo, who has made three senior appearances for the Blades, scored three goals in seven appearances in his previous loan spell at York. The Italy Under-19 international struck the winning goal in the 1-0 win at Cheltenham earlier this month and also scored in the defeat at Newport in October and the home game against Mansfield. York reached agreement with Burnley on Wednesday to extend goalkeeper Alex Cisak's loan spell at the club.
