Hasselbaink praise for Burton

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink hailed his Burton team's performance after they secured a 3-1 win at Wycombe in his first match in charge.

Wycombe went into this match with a chance of going back to the top of League Two but a clinical display by the Brewers allowed them to move level on points with their opponents. Hasselbaink said: "It's a great way to start, I'm very happy with the start and I'm very happy with the performance. "Let's not just look at the result; look at the performance - it was very good. "I'm very happy with the determination and the commitment and it's very important to take that forward - you saw today that they are willing. "It was solid, we worked well together and we worked very hard, matched Wycombe with our work-rate - we knew that was going to be key - and we did our stages really, really well. "We want to take it (push for promotion) as far as possible. "Step by step we want to go all the way and then we build again to go all the way. "We're going to fight for it, but it's not something that we talk about. "It's about taking one game at a time and trying to improve game by game." Burton opened their account under Hasselbaink after 38 minutes when Phil Edwards thumped in a header from Matty Palmer's corner. Palmer set up the Brewers' second early in the second half by sending an excellent through-ball to Alex MacDonald, who finished through Matt Ingram's legs. Paul Hayes gave Wycombe hope from the penalty spot but the visitors added a third when Jacob Blyth headed in Damien McCrory's cross. Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth said: "They came and they outfought us, outworked us and they took their chances. "We had a few things go against us tonight but we were nowhere near the standards we've set so it's disappointing. "There were a few bright little bits - we didn't give up and the fans were right behind us until the end, but it wasn't to be tonight. "I'm more concerned about the injuries that we've picked up and the two that were suspended, Aaron Pierre and Josh Scowen, were missed as well. "It was a culmination of things but fair play to Burton, they deserved that tonight and they were the ones that took the points. "We're sitting third in the league, which no-one would have thought, but I just worry that too many suspensions and injuries will take its toll on us. "We'll have to be super good in the medical department to make sure we have a solid squad to compete."
