Luton defender Steve McNulty has signed a new contract with the club.

McNulty, last season's player of the year, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal to keep him at Kenilworth Road until the summer of 2016.

The 30-year-old joined the Hatters from Fleetwood in January 2013 and was an ever-present last season as Luton stormed to the Conference title.

"Steve has been a tremendous asset for this football club since I have been here, both on and off the field," Hatters boss John Still told the club's official website.

"His performances last season at centre-half were colossal and I'm hoping for much more of the same from him next season and beyond."

McNulty added: "I've had a good first year here and all I want to do now is kick on even further.

"I'm at a club that doesn't want to stand still and the manager has done everything this summer to ensure we'll give League 2 a really good go. We're in good shape and there's much more strength in depth.

"I'm happy to be at Luton. Before I moved here I was considering packing football in altogether, but signing here has been the best thing I've ever done."

The Hatters have also been quick to wrap up a permanent deal for experienced striker Paul Benson.

Benson, who scored 18 goals in 38 games last season during a loan spell at Kenilworth Road, has put pen to paper a two-year contract following his release from Swindon.

The 34-year-old has twice been promoted from League 2, with the Robins and Dagenham, and he believes Luton are capable of competing at the top end of the table again during the 2104/15 campaign.

"It's good to finally get the contract sorted. I'm looking forward to an exciting season for me and the club," Benson told the club's official website.

"I think we have the players here to really push on and challenge at the right end of the table.

"I've been lucky enough to have been promoted from League 2 a couple of times so I think I know what players are required to do it - and I think we have the quality here to do that.

"If we take the momentum from last season forward I really do think we have a real chance of going up again."
