Ainsworth praise for Chairboys

Image: Gareth Ainsworth: Not getting carried away

Gareth Ainsworth could not have been prouder of his Wycombe players as they hauled themselves up the table with a 1-0 win at Exeter.

Max Kretzschmar scored the only goal of the game with a 35-yard rocket which flew over the head of Grecians goalkeeper Christy Pym. It ensures the Chairboys now boast a five-point cushion to the relegation zone in League Two. "The lads are dead on their feet and they have given me absolutely everything. I couldn't be prouder of them," Ainsworth said. "It is nice to get a win and what a fantastic goal to win a game. When Max scores it is usually the winner. So you can shut up shop then if he scores. "He has got the winner against Hartlepool, Bristol Rovers, Chesterfield and now Exeter. He is coming on like something else, he is really coming into his own and with strikes like that - fantastic. If you get chance to watch it on TV, it is really worth the wait. "I am just so really pleased with the performance. I have lost my voice but to get back-to-back wins is superb. "I can't thank the fans enough for sticking with us. Everyone has been behind us and no-one has ever doubted what we can do and I think we are proving it. "But let's not get carried away - that is two wins and we need to a few more to be safe in the league. I know I have got enough to get out of this."
