Southend manager Phil Brown felt his side deserved more than a 1-1 draw against Hartlepool at Roots Hall.
The Shrimpers had to settle for a share of the spoils after Pools midfielder Bradley Walker cancelled out Barry Corr's opener.
But Brown thought Blues had done enough to claim all three points.
"Our performance was there for everyone to see and I thought we did just about enough to have won it," said Brown.
"We've hit the crossbar and had two or three cleared off the line but things just didn't seem to break for us in front of goal which was disappointing.
"However, if we keep on playing like this and have the right kind of attitude to go along with that then I'm sure things will start to turn for us.
"Credit to Hartlepool, though, because they came smelling blood after our recent results and they certainly went for it too.
"But we also need to start showing a bit more belief if we are to get back to winning ways."
