Scunthorpe's latest signing Gary McSheffrey wants to play a key role in his new club's bid for promotion.
The 31-year-old former Coventry and Birmingham striker has signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.
"I'm just excited and looking forward to the challenge," said McSheffrey, who scored a hat-trick for the reserves against Sheffield Wednesday last week while on trial.
"Obviously my trial went well. When you're a free agent you'd rather have a deal sewn up. The manager asked me to come and play a reserve game, they wanted to have a look at me."
McSheffrey added on the club's official website: "I'd like to get in the team as soon as I can and try to stay in the team.
"I'd like to contribute to what is hopefully a promotion-winning team."
McSheffrey, who arrived at Glanford Park following the end of a four-month deal at Chesterfield, is hoping to make his first appearance for the club in Saturday's home league game against AFC Wimbledon.
