Home comforts delight Ward

Bristol Rovers boss John Ward was relieved to finally see his side win at home for the first time since the end of August.

First-half goals from David Clarkson and Tom Parkes, plus a late Matt Harrold penalty, gave the Pirates a major lift against AFC Wimbledon, who finished with 10 men after having midfielder Sammy Moore dismissed for a second yellow card eight minutes from time. Ward said: "I'm delighted for my players, but also for our fans who have been very patient while our home record has not been as good as we would like. "I always say that if supporters could play for the club they would give 100 per cent and because they can't they expect nothing less from those who do wear the shirt. "That's what they saw. Our young players are making progress and while they continue to show that level of commitment I will be prepared to be patient with them." Ward added: "We may have got a break with a decision early on, but the ref has seen a handball and gave it our way."
