Dagenham have suffered a big loss in David Andrews' decision to step down as chairman, according to managing director Steve Thompson.
David Bennett has been announced as Andrews' successor following a board meeting.
Thompson told the Barking and Dagenham Post: "If it was not for him I don't think we would be in the Football League and as strong as we are without a number of people, especially Dave Andrews."
Bennett told the club's official website: "I am immensely honoured to be given the role and I hope I can bring some fresh ideas to the role but the main aim, as ever, is to be as competitive as possible."
Andrews, a former player/manager of the club, became chairman in 1976 when they were known as Leytonstone.
