Sky Sports understands Mansfield captain and assistant manager Adam Murray will be allowed to leave the club on loan.
The League Two new boys are thought to be willing to let Murray go out on loan for a month.
The news comes as a surprise as Murray was instrumental in helping them win promotion to the Football League last season and a host of player awards last term.
Murray figured in the first three games of the season for Mansfield, but he has not been involved in the last two games against Wycombe and Portsmouth.
No further details have been given and the player's agent Gino Culbertson advised that he was not in a position to comment at this stage.
