Padraig Amond wants Morecambe to get their first league win against Exeter this weekend before hosting Newcastle in midweek.

The Shrimps have picked up just one point and scored a solitary goal in three league games so far this season, with only goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone already.

However, Jim Bentley's men did upset Wolves in the Capital One Cup in a televised clash to set up a mouthwatering home tie with Newcastle at the Globe Arena on Wednesday.

With that fixture, which is expected to draw a record crowd, looming on the horizon, Amond wants three points on the board when Exeter come to town.

"It's a home game and a chance for us to put right what's gone wrong in the league for us," Amond said.

"We're quite anxious to get that first win in the league under our belts and to kick on because the league is your bread and butter."

The 25-year-old joined Morecambe this summer following a successful stint with fellow League Two outfit Accrington and, although he is yet to get off the mark, Amond has found his feet quickly at his new home.

"I've settled in well with all the lads they're all really, really good lads and I've enjoyed training under the gaffer and Kenny (McKenna, assistant manager) as well so it's been really, really easy to settle in," he added.

"I'm just looking forward to playing and getting a run of games up front and hopefully scoring a few goals. Getting my first goal and building on it from there."
