Sky Sports understands that Burton Albion are close to completing the signing of former Burnley striker Alex MacDonald.
The 23-year-old is a product of the Clarets' youth system but struggled to hold down a first-team place, making just 17 appearances for the club in five years, all as a substitute.
In that time the former Scotland Under-21 striker has also enjoyed loan spells north of the border at Falkirk and Inverness as well as spells at Plymouth and Burton in League Two.
MacDonald's contract at Turf Moor expires this summer, meaning he will be available on a free transfer.
It is believed the Brewers are close to snapping up the striker, who made 15 appearances for the club during the second half of last season.
